In response to Nigeria’s ongoing struggle with inadequate social amenities and the growing need for collective action, the Saving African Youths Dream Initiative (SAYDi) in partnership with Hilltop Art Foundation, has taken an innovative approach to address societal challenges
We recently concluded a transformative photography workshop titled “Engineering Change through Photography: Building a Positive Social Order. We received an overwhelming response, with over 70 applications from passionate individuals eager to make an impact. However, we selected 20 participants to ensure a more personalized and hands-on experience.
The workshop, which took place in Minna, Niger State, empowered young people with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to use photography as a means of advocating for change. Through this hands-on initiative, participants were introduced to various elements of photography such as composition, lighting, and narrative techniques. They learned how to use these techniques to craft compelling visual stories capable of highlighting societal ills and fostering positive change in their communities.
We believe in the power of visual storytelling to ignite important conversations and inspire action. By equipping these young individuals with photography skills, we hope to amplify their voices, enabling them to expose social injustices and push for policy changes that benefit their communities.
The workshop was not just a skills-building session but a call to action. We encourage participants to document their surroundings, share their unique perspectives, and use their art as a tool to demand chang.
As we continue our mission to empower youth and champion causes that uplift communities, we looks forward to future collaborations. Together, we can achieve more and continue to build a positive social order through creative expression and collective effort.
