Rural Education Needs Assessment Project (RENAP)

Without dispute, quality education remains a fundamental human right and a pivotal driver of socio-economic development. Nevertheless, many children in rural communities still lack access to quality education. This underscores the urgency of raising awareness and advocating for educational reforms from relevant stakeholders, ministries, and agencies to advance quality education for rural residents in Kwara North, Nigeria. Based on our recent research, a significant disparity exists in the attainment of quality education between children in urban and rural areas of Kwara. Urban children have the opportunity to receive quality education due to the presence of adequate infrastructure, which regrettably is absent in rural schools in Kwara North. To bridge this gap, the Saving African Youths Dream Initiative, in collaboration with the HEDA Resource Centre, has initiated the Rural Education Needs Assessment Project (RENAP) in Kwara North. RENAP is designed to enhance the state of education in rural communities through policy reforms and improvements in education infrastructure, ensuring free access to education for all, enhancing teacher training to elevate teaching quality, and extending support to marginalized and vulnerable populations, including children with disabilities. The ultimate goal is to solicit government intervention for the implementation of these policies and reforms while increasing investments in rural education.

Education-for-all

The Saving African Youths Dream Initiative uses its community-based alternative education initiative, Education for All, to combat the high rates of females dropping out of school in Nigeria. The objective of Education for All was to provide out-of-school children with the resources required to guarantee a 100% transfer into the formal education system within a 12-month time frame. We therefore collaborated with professionals and other stakeholders in developing a curriculum that covers identified fundamental disciplines (not limted to Literacy, Mathematical abilities, Life skills, Digital proficiency, etc.) in order to meet this goal.
